YBhg. Dato’ Valluvan Veloo

Director, Manufacturing Industry Science and Technology Section Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Department

Dato’ Valluvan Veloo was appointed as the Director, Manufacturing Industry Science and Technology Section, Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Prime Minister’s Department in October 2018. As Director, he is responsible to spearhead the planning and formulate policies, strategies and progress for manufacturing industry, science, technology and innovation which includes small and medium enterprise to make these sectors lead the country’s growth. Prior to this, Dato’ Valluvan was the Director of Enforcement, Road Transport Department, where he was responsible in the implementation of policies towards ensuring road and transport safety for Malaysians. Dato’ Valluvan has also served as the General Manager of Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) under the purview of Prime Minister’s Department. His career path in Government is unique in that he has had to evolve in order to serve a myriad of challenging portfolios efficiently from Organizational Development, organising international meetings conferences and exhibitions (MICE) to Road Safety Regulations and Enforcement.

He has more than 20 years of experience in policy development and implementation in the public sectors as well as coordinating with international bodies such as the Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration (EROPA) and the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (CAPAM). Dato’ Valluvan holds a Master’s Degree in Information Technology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and is also a certified for the MS ISO 9000 Lead Auditor. With Malaysia’s abundant economic opportunities, Dato’ Valluvan is optimistic that the strong collaboration between public-private partnerships will accelerate Malaysia’s development towards reaching the aspiration of shared prosperity vision 2030.

YBhg. Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang

Secretary General, Ministry of Environment and Water

Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang is a national figure for his contributions as a public administrator, professional environmental engineer, academician, innovator, author and environmentalist in Malaysia. He was the first recipient of the most prestigious Merdeka Award 2009 for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement and became the youngest Vice-Chancellor in the history of public universities in Malaysia, when he was appointed at the age of 43. New Straits Times hailed him as a “Malaysian Water Icon” in 2004. Malaysian national news agency, BERNAMA introduced him as an “environmental ideologue”. This is in recognition for his outstanding contribution to management, research, teaching and advocacy works related to the environmental sustainability, especially on waste and wastewater management, policy formulation and technology development.

YBhg. Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Siti Hamisah Bt Tapsir

Her role as the most senior civil servant in the Ministry is to provide leadership in the development of the country’s policy and  strategic direction in science, technology, innovation and the economy. As Secretary General, she is also responsible for MOSTI’s operational and development expenditure, which was worth more than MYR 900 million in 2020. Thus, Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir is also directly involved in the regulation, management and policy of the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) including LYNAS, Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Malaysian Space Agency, Department of Chemistry Malaysia and Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia. On 16 March 2021, Datuk Siti is appointed as the President of Malaysian Board of Technologist, recognizing her contribution and passion towards nurturing and preparing Malaysian technology-based, high-skilled talent for the challenging future. 

On a professional level, she is a registered Technologist with the Malaysia Board of Technologists and a registered engineer under the Board of Engineers Malaysia. In 2016, Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir received an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of Science) from the University of Southampton for her outstanding contribution in engineering. She has also received numerous accolades including the Asia HRD Awards 2017 for her contribution to the Malaysian Society for advancing higher education in Malaysia and the Honorary Fellow of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) in 2017 for her expertise and experience in advancing the growth of engineering in the ASEAN region.

Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). His key responsibilities include: Overseeing the Kuching Urban Transportation System Project (KUTS), under the management of subsidiary, Sarawak Metro, for commercial operation of the Automated Rapid Transit (ART), overseeing the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses project, in preparation for Sarawak’s future plan to adopt hydrogen and powered feeder buses to complement the ART Project. He graduated Bachelor in Economics majoring in Business Administration from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur (1973)and Master’s in Business Administration majoring in Finance from Syracuse University, New York (1978). Previously, he is the Deputy Chairman (September 1981) of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Deputy State Financial Secretary (January 1987), Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of infrastructure Development (May 1990), Deputy State Secretary (HR portfolio)(January 1994) and State Secretary of Sarawak (9August 2000).

Datuk Bahria is the Deputy Secretary General (Investment) at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry Malaysia (MITI). Before being assigned to her current role on 3 February 2020, she was the Deputy Secretary General (Trade), MITI. Datuk Bahria accumulated vast experience in the realm of international trade and industry development as she has been serving the same ministry for more than 24 years since 1996. Among her notable previous roles at MITI include her directorship at both the Special Task Force on Service Delivery (PEMUDAH) Secretariat Office and the Entrepreneurship Development Division. She was also the Minister of Economic Affairs at MITI Tokyo from December 2006 until December 2009. Datuk Bahria obtained her L.L.B. in Business Law (Hons) from Coventry University, United Kingdom in 1993. Later in 2006, she secured the M.A. in International Relations from Waseda University, Japan

Mohd Sharulnizam Bin Sarip is working as a Chief Technology Officer at Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and Internet of Things Institute (MARii) with 14 years experience in Automotive Sector especially in the area of Vehicle Construction, Standards/Regulations, Testing, Road Vehicle Acts and Policy. He acquired his Master degree of Engineering from University Putra Malaysia, Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Electronics and System Engineering from Saitama University Japan and Certificate of Excellence in Data Science and Analytics from University of California, Berkeley, United States of America. He is currently in charge for 3 main divisions in MARii which are Manufacturing, Aftermarket and National Emission Testing Centre (NETC). He has vast experience in Vehicle Standards and Regulations and also representing Malaysia as Automotive Experts in ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards Quality (ACCSQ), International Standards Organisation (ISO) and World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP29).

Mr. Kevin Liu

Kevin heads up the energy team in Asia Pacific for Scottish Development International (SDI), the overseas arm of Scottish Enterprise, Scotland’s economic development agency. Based at the British Embassy in Beijing, Kevin leads a team of trade specialists in India, China, Malaysia and Singapore who are driving the internationalisation of Scottish expertise in oil & gas, subsea engineering and renewable energy. He is also SDI’s senior country representative for mainland China and Hong Kong. Previously, Kevin was Head of Communication and Marketing for Asia Pacific at the Department for International Trade, based at the British High Commission in Singapore, where he managed strategic communications for HM Trade Commissioner and led the UK Government’s Great Campaign in the region.

Prior to government service, Kevin spent eight years in political risk consulting with Exclusive Analysis, a London-based intelligence company later acquired by IHS Markit, specialising in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He worked closely with operators, contractors, lenders, multilateral agencies and insurers on large cross-border projects, particularly in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.

Dr. Ben Todd

Chief Executive Officer of Arcola Energy 

Ben has been involved in the fuel cell industry for more than 20 years. He completed his PhD in engineering at Cambridge University, working on the modelling of the Rolls-Royce solid oxide fuel cell system for power generation. Previously, he worked in R&D, technical and strategy roles for commercial and public sector projects, including at Cambridge Consultants and Johnson Matthey.

Ben founded Arcola Energy in 2010 with the aim of bridging the gap between the development of new hydrogen technology and deployment-ready applications.

Prof Yasuyuki Ikegami was the ExCo Chair, Japan Delegate of the Ocean Thermal Energy Association (OTEA), Japan Delegate of the International Energy Agency Technology Collaboration Program on Ocean Energy Systems (IEA-OES) and Coordinator of the Task on Status of OTEC and its Resource Assessment in IEA-OES. His main research filed is on the optimization on Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) system, heat exchanger for (OTEC), and By-product of OTEC(Hydrogen production and Desalination etc.). He has served Director at the Institute of Ocean Energy at Saga University and as a Visiting Professor at Duke University. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Best Paper Award by ASME and the Global 100 Eco-Tech Award

He is Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)-Petronas Professor of Sustainable Hydrogen Energy, Founding Director of Fuel Cell Institute, UKM, Founding President of Malaysia Association of Hydrogen Energy, Fellow of Academy of Science Malaysia & Fellow of Institution of Chemical Engineers. He won the Merdeka Award 2016, Malaysia's top science award for outstanding research in green hydrogen energy & fuel cells. He publish more than 400 articles in international journals & has presented over 40 international keynote papers all over the world.

Adlan B Ahmad was appointed as the Head of Hydrogen, Gas and New Energy, PETRONAS in October 2020, from his previous position of Head of Strategic Alliance, Corporate Strategy. Prior to his appointment in Strategic Alliance, Adlan was the CEO of Superior Energy Service (KL) Sdn Bhd (SESKL) in the area of well intervention. Leading up to the SESKL post, Adlan was the Executive Vice President of Investments for Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM), a new government agency to spearhead wealth creation through innovation. Adlan was also the Chief Operating Office for Iskandar Investment Berhad, a Khazanah subsidiary that was responsible for the development of the Iskandar Development Region, before that he holds an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Gas Engineering from Texas A&M University at Kingsville, and he was a scholar of PETRONAS.

A true born and bred Penangite, Josephine received her secondary education in Penang Girls’ High School and graduated from the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) as Bachelor Degree (HONS) Mass Communication in the Creative Industry Faculty. She reported to office as PGC’s new General Manager in April 2019. Previously, for the past 6 years, she has been serving as the Special Officer in charge of Environmental portfolio under Penang State Government. Her vast experience also comes from her active involvement in environmental related issues, policy making, educational awareness and international networking platforms such as UNEP, CCAC, ICLEI, GEC, JICA, ISWA and UN Habitat. Professor Dr. Christopher Hebling

Professor Christopher Hebling is the Director of the Division ‘Hydrogen Technologies’ and co-director of the Division ‘Energy Technologies and Systems’ at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy System, ISE. He received his degree in physics in 1991 and received his doctoral degree, also in physics in 1998. In 2019 Christopher Hebling was awarded an honorary professorship in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. Christopher Hebling is vice president and member of the executive committee of the German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (DWV), holds a seat on the German government's expert committee "Transformation Fund Automotive Industry" for the Ministry of Transport (BMVI), was appointed to the CEO Roundtable "Clean Hydrogen in Industrial Applications" of the "European Clean Hydrogen Alliance" of the EU Commission. He also represents Germany as an expert on the Executive Committee of the Technology Collaboration Program for Research and Development on the Production and Utilization of Hydrogen of the International Energy Agency IEA and is spokesperson for the Fraunhofer Hydrogen Network and the Fraunhofer Strategic Research Field (FSF) Hydrogen, which comprises 32 Fraunhofer Institutes.

Andrew Dickson is the Development Manager of the Asian Renewable Energy Hub project (www.asianrehub.com) a large, export oriented green hydrogen and ammonia project in Western Australia. He has been a renewable energy project developer since 2004, and has developed wind / solar PV / solar thermal / microgrids / hydrogen / ammonia projects in most Australian states. He has a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree from the University of New South Wales, and a Master of Science and Technology commercialisation degree from the University of Adelaide.

Head of Group, Fuel Cell Performance Development Group, Hyundai Motor Company

Dr. Suh has 25 years of experience in developing vehicles for Hyundai Motor Group, and currently he is a head of group in fuel cell performance development. Suh contributed to the developments of fuel cell systems and vehicles including buses and trucks. Suh received his B.E. and M.E. from Seoul National University. Then he earned a doctorate in engineering at the University of Michigan, with his research on fuel cell systems. He was a visiting researcher at Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Germany.

Mr Rudyanto Azhar

Mr Rudyanto Azhar heads the Iskandar Malaysia Bus Rapid Transit (IMBRT) team and brings with him a wealth of experience in the field of public transportation - having been involved in the planning and operations of rail and bus services under Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and MRT Corp, as well as expanding the Transit Oriented Development for the former, prior to joining IRDA.

In his current role, he is responsible for driving overall strategic directions as well as leadership of Iskandar Malaysia Bus Rapid Transit (IMBRT), including to ensure successful delivery and implementation of the project, meeting the project’s intended goals, requirements of all stakeholders and ensuring sustainability of its services. This will include but not limited to, construction of key infrastructures, procurement of components and services, selection of business partners, and seamless integration and operationalisation of its operating environment.

Mr Rudy attended the Cranfield Global CEO Programme, Cranfield School of Management, UK (2014), he holds a master’s Degree in Management from Universiti Malaya and a Degree in Accounting & Finance from University of Kent at Canterbury.

Initially, he was attached to Maybank, then went on to be a consultant at Deloitte, and subsequently, Formates. 2010 is the year where he embarked into the public transportation field where he worked at the Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD) before joining the Prasarana Malaysia Berhad team.

In 2013, he was appointed as the CEO of the Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd, driving the property development and commercial arms of a public transport organisation in the Klang Valley. He then moved on to MRT Corporation in 2015 until early 2017. At this juncture, he was appointed as Director at Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), tasked at spearheading the Iskandar Malaysia Bus Rapid Transit (IMBRT), the first, and longest outside the Klang Valley
