YBhg. Profesor Dato' Ir. Dr. A Bakar Jaafar

Prof Dato’ Ir. Dr. A. Bakar Jaafar, PEng, FIEM, FASc, has served the Government of Malaysia in various capacities since 1973. His career included stints as Factories and Machinery Inspector (1973-74), Staff Engineer of the US EPA Office of Research & Development, Industrial Environmental Research Laboratory (1975-76); Principal Assistant Director (Water Quality), Environment Division, Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (1976-80); Research Grantee at Environment & Policy Institute, East-West Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA (1980-83); Principal Assistant Director (Science, Technology and Environment), Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department (1984-85); DOE Director of Operations (1985-86); DOE Deputy Director General (Planning) (1987-89); and as the Director-General of the Department of Environment Malaysia (DOE) (1990-1995).

After his optional retirement, he continued to serve the Government of Malaysia as the Elected-Member of UNCLOS Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf for three consecutive terms from 1997-2002, 2002-2007 and 2007-2012, at the UN Headquarters, New York.
Current Appointment & Directorship in other companies/organisations are Vice-President, Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Research Fellow, UTM Ocean Thermal Energy Centre, Professor at Perdana Centre, UTM Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics, Member of Board of Directors of public-listed and private companies, including Land & General Berhad, Novaviro Technology Sdn Bhd, AGV Environment Sdn Bhd, and Pengurusan Air Pahang Berhad (PAIP).

Ts. Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor

Ts. Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor is the Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), the primary driver for green technology and climate change development under the purview of the Ministry of Environment & Water, Malaysia. Prior to joining MGTC, He was the Vice President for Sustainable Business Network Association Malaysia (SustNET), the primary driver for the integration of Sustainable Development Goals into business practices. He was previously the Chairman for Green Project Management Awards, Managing Director for Syngas Renewable Energy and was the Executive Director of Saham Utama Sdn Bhd. Prior to that, he was the CEO of Polymal Corporation, which he successfully turned around from successive losses to accumulated profits of PAT RM4mil within the fourth year and successfully repositioned Polymal Corporation into a major manufacturer and producer of extruded thermoformable plastic sheets in South East Asia with business sales in USA, Europe, Japan, Australia, India and South Africa.

In 2014, Ts. Shamsul Bahar was awarded the patent approval in 40 countries for a renewable energy system that converts waste plastics into commercial Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel Oil (EN590), winning him the MOSTI’s Innovation of the Year Award, Malaysian Green Technology Corporation’s Catalyst Award and the United Nation’s Global Cleantech Innovation Award for Green Technology Renewable Energy Systems. He now directs and oversees the company's overall operational policies, initiatives, and goals to spearhead the country’s climate change agenda and to drive sustainable economic development. He holds a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from University of Portland, USA, Applied Physics and minor in Mathematics from Linfield College, USA.

PROF. DATO’ ChM. DR. MAZLIN BIN MOKHTAR

Mazlin Bin Mokhtar, BSc (Tasmania), PhD (Queensland) is a Professor of Environmental Chemistry at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM, The National University of Malaysia). He is currently a Director of the Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI) at UKM since August 2005 - 15 January 2014; and again since 1 March 2019-28 February 2022. He was appointed by the Honorable Minister of Higher Education Malaysia to hold the post of Deputy Vice Chancellor in charged of Research and Innovation Affairs at UKM from 16 January 2014 - 15 January 2017. He was appointed by the Honorable Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Malaysia as Chairman of the Malaysian Environmental Quality Council from 2015-2018. In 2018 the Honorable Minister of MESTECC (Ministry of Energy, Science & Technology, Environment, and Climate Change) appointed Prof Mazlin as Chairman of Evaluation Committee of Lynas rare earth operations in Malaysia. In 2019 Prof Mazlin was appointed by the Honorable Minister of KATS as Deputy Chairman of a special Committee to develop SOP for Bauxite Mining and Exportation. Professor Mazlin is also a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry, and Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. He has been appointed as Honorary Professor and Senior Fellow by various universities in Malaysia including Sunway University, UNiSZA, UIM, and IMU. He was a member of the National Steering Committee of the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme 2000-2018 (longest serving member); esteemed Nomination Committee Member of the prestigious Merdeka Awards Malaysia (Environment Category) of 2015-2017 & 2020-2022; Advisory Committee of the National River Care Fund, Member of WWF Malaysia's Board of Trustees 2014-2018; and currently Chairman of Sub Sector on Advocacy, Awareness, Capacity Building & Public Participatory Platforms (AACB+PPP) of the National Water Sector Transformation 2040 Study sponsored by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of Prime Minister's Department & Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM).

Professor Mazlin was awarded Winner of the coveted national environmental award Anugerah Langkawi 2017/2018. His Royal Highness The Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman had bestowed upon Prof Mazlin the Darjah Setia DiRaja Kedah DSDK on 14 January 2014 which carried the title Dato'; and earlier His Royal Highness The Sultan of Perak had bestowed upon him the Pingat Paduka Mahkota Perak PMP in 2002 based upon his excellent services to country and society for sustainability of one, and many. His research interests and leadership in environmental management and sustainability had brought recognition and acknowledgement from various internationally renowned universities, and entitities in and around Asia Pacific and Europe over the past thirty years or so. He has published widely in many forms in various peer reviewed journals and books, and articles, and had supervised, guided, and mentored many next generation leaders and professional managers, and contributors at various levels in Malaysia, and Asia

Chief Executive Officer, Nano Malaysia Berhad

Dr. Rezal Khairi Ahmad

Dr. Rezal Khairi Ahmad was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer in January 2013 under a secondment from Khazanah Nasional. He is also a Board Member of NanoMalaysia and Nano Commerce Sdn Bhd, Founding Chairman of NanoVerify Sdn Bhd and Founding Director of Nanovation Ventures Sdn Bhd. Currently, he serves as Chairman of Advanced Materials Investment Advisory Panel Working Group under Malaysian Investment Development Authority, Treasurer for Asia Nano Forum, Chairman of Commercialization Working Group under Asia Nano Forum and Member of the Board of Governors for Malaysia Laboratories for Academia-Business Collaborations (MyLAB). In September 2017, he was appointed the International Advisor to China Graphene Industry Alliance (CGIA), linking Malaysia’s National Graphene Action Plan 2020 for mutual economic benefits. Formerly attached to the College of Engineering, Universiti Tenaga Nasional as an academician and Head of Semiconductor Group from 1998 to 2007, he was also an engineer at Tenaga Nasional ICT in 2003. 

He holds a PhD in Nanotechnology, Electronic/Electrical Engineering from the London Centre for Nanotechnology, University College London as the first Khazanah PhD Scholar from 2007 to 2010 with publications in high impact journals. In 2014, he was instrumental in crafting out Malaysia’s National Graphene Action Plan 2020 and co-authored chapters pertaining to innovation under the 11th and 12th Malaysia Plan. He is also the architect of the nanotechnology commercialization ecosystem in Malaysia. In 2017, he was listed as one of Malaysia’s key business influencers by International Business Review and since 2019, he is Malaysia’s Top 100 LinkedIn Icons. His current endeavors include renewable energy solutions including latest PV, hydrogen and battery technologies, projects on Internet of Nano things and blockchain applications for high technology management towards the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Dr Hezri Adnan

Dr Hezri Adnan is the Executive Director of The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER). With a PhD in Public Policy from the Australian National University, Dr Hezri specialises in sustainable development solutions with work spanning areas such green economy and natural resources governance. His last posting was as CEO of the Langkawi Development Authority from 2019 till April 2021. He also served as a Distinguished Fellow at the Instititute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS). From 2015 to 2018, Hezri served as a Member of the United Nations’ International Resource Panel (IRP), a UN Environment Programme expert body that focuses on strategic issues of resource scarcity and efficiency. He has consulted for international organizations such as UNDP, UNESCAP, UNICEF, UNRISD and the World Bank, on many issues related to development and environmental challenges in the developing world. His past and current advisory roles include Cleared Advisor for the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industries and a Member of the Advisory Council for WWF Malaysia.
